WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
The warmth will continue to hang around through mid-week, before temperatures start to backdown to normal levels. Temperatures for both Tuesday and Wednesday will challenge records but are not forecast to break nor tie them.
A cold front will approach the area Wednesday night into Thursday morning, helping to drop the temperatures back down close to average. The average high by Friday is 60 and we're forecast to be around that temperature.
In terms of rain, there is barely a drop coming in the next 10 days. There is a small chance for rain on Saturday – but those chances are very low and keep getting lower with more data. If this trend continues into the end of the month, Oct. 2024 could go down as one of the driest months on record for the Hudson Valley.
TUESDAY: Sunny. Highs: mid to upper 70s. Record: 82 (1979).
WEDNESDAY: Sunny and breezy. Highs: mid 70s. Record 77 (2007).
THURSDAY: Sunny and breezy.
FRIDAY: Mainly sunny.
FALL FOLIAGE COLORS:
  • Westchester: low to moderate
  • Rockland: moderate
  • Putnam: moderate to high
  • Orange: moderate to high
  • Dutchess: moderate to high
  • Ulster: high to peak
TROPICS:
There is ONE system being monitored by the National Hurricane Center.
  • OSCAR - A tropical system was upgraded to OSCAR Saturday morning, became a hurricane Saturday afternoon and made landfall Sunday evening in eastern Cuba as a Category 1 with 80 MPH winds. It has since weakened to a tropical storm and will be moving away from Cuba for the next few days. It will weaken but could bring about rough surf, heavy rain and gusty winds to the Bahamas and eventually Bermuda by the second half of the week.
ASTRO: ORIONID METEOR SHOWER
  • It peaked Sunday night, but it can still be visible tonight and into early November. The frequency of meteors will be backing down gradually through early November. The best chance to see some is to look after midnight and give your eyes some time to adjust to the night sky. The further away you are from town and streetlights, the better your chances will be to see some streaking across the sky.
