Nassau County executive, police commissioner give update on school safety

Since the beginning of August, Nassau County police say there have been 80 threats against schools in the county.

Dozens of school threats on Long Island have left parents and students on edge.

Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder says there have been 80 school threats to date in the county.
During the same time period last year, there were 23.
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman said officers patrol every day in the areas around Nassau’s hundreds of school buildings.
In Suffolk County, from Aug. 1- Sept. 24 of this year, there have been 32 school threats, police said.
During that same time period last year, there were 12.
